We are working on numerous projects and substudies at any time, including these major studies:

In collaboration with the FIU Center for Imaging Science, SUN Lab is a site for the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study. This national, landmark, transdisciplinary study is assessing a cohort of almost 12,000 youth throughout adolescence and into young adulthood to better understand factors that contribute to healthy development. This study is the data collection and data analysis phase. It is closed for new enrollment.

In partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the RECOVER Study is recruiting ABCD Study participants to join this nationwide study on COVID. Taking a long time to recover from COVID is called post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC), or “Long COVID”. The study aims to learn how COVID affects children’s health and why certain children are sick many months after getting COVID.

The "Choices" Study is a longitudinal investigation of 401 adolescents ages 14-17 who were assessed over two years. The purpose of the study is to understand how certain cognitive abilities (i.e., decision-making) influence cannabis use patterns and risk for cannabis addiction during adolescence, as well as the effects of cannabis on "decision-making" and memory function.

"Mind Matters" is designed to understand how use of cannabis affects cognitive and everyday functioning among people living with HIV. It tests hypotheses by which cannabis use interacts with adverse HIV effects to contribute to worse cognitive and daily functioning, or whether it may be protective for cognition via anti-inflammatory mechanisms. This cross-sectional study has collected data on 338 adult individuals who differ in HIV and cannabis use status.
